About the Book

The tremendous growth in access to unstructured information, fuelled by the expansion of the Web has continued to stimulate interest in the field of Natural Language Processing (NLP). Corpus-based approaches for data creation and validation have revolutionized the scalability of systems. Industrial interest is surging with the promise of breakthrough applications ranging from information retrieval and extraction to machine translation and question-answering.

For six years now, the ICON conference series has provided a forum for exploring these changes in the context of India's rich linguistic heritage.

This volume, with critically selected papers from a wide spectrum of NLP areas, constitutes a valuable resource for NLP.

These are the proceedings of ICON 2007 held at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad during January, 4-6, 2007.
